Crappie/Striper Report February 27, 2010
by doug
Big crappie are finally starting to show up. This week the full moon has really brought up the good size crappies. Most of the fish we have been catching over the past few weeks have been on the small size . The first full moon in February will usually trigger the big ones to bite and it has. When planning your crappie trips, 3 day’s before and up to 3 day’s after the full moon are peak times to catch good strings of fish if you are able to plan your fishing around the moon phase. You will see good crappie action during a new moon also. The water temps this week on Lanier have ranged from 43-47 degrees on the sunny day’s which is a real key to turning on a good bite. I have heard reports of a few stripers being caught flatling small threadfins but no real hot action on the stripers yet. It should be mid to late March before the stripers get going. We still need more consecutive warm day’s to get the stripers moving. I will be out later this week and will report back later.
