Crappie/Striper Report April 1, 2010 « Lake Lanier Fishing Reports

Crappie/Striper Report April 1, 2010

by doug

Crappie fishing still remains very good. The fish are moving back in the creeks and should be there in full force this week after the big warm up. We fished yesterday and boated 79 crappie with some up in the 1 pound range.Look for the fish to be holding in 2-5 feet of water near blowdowns and the submerged grass that grew when the lake was down this past year.

Stripers are still a little confused and are confusing us fisherman also. I have had some luck early flatling bluebacks in the backs of the major creeks on the South end of the lake but the action seems to really taper as soon as the sun hits the water. I usually have a tough time on stripers this time of year especially around the full moon. Try casting small bucktails and zoom flukes on a 1/4 oz. lead head to the bank as you drag your bait. That has been working  for the stripers also you will pick up some huge spots. The morning bite on the stripers should really improve as we get away from this full moon.

There has been some striper action late in the day. Yesterday a buddy of mine boated a striper in the mid 20’s on a pointer jerkbait. He reported seeing several schools coming up busting shad right at dark. This late evening action can be strong this time of year when we are in this moon phase.

Bass fishing has been excellent. Its been taking 5 fish limits of spots that weigh around 20 pounds to win most of the recent bass tournaments on Lanier lately. I went out bass fishing last week and had good luck fishing jerkbaits on windblown points. Shaky heads with a green pumpkin worm around docks will produce action on the spots. Will be out all next week and will report back later.
