Crappie Report January 4, 2014
by doug
Went to Lake Hartwell today to fish for crappie. We usually catch some nice fish there this time of year. When we launched the boat the water temps were in the high 40’s which is fine for crappie. This time of year the sunshine is the key to making the fish turn on which we did’nt have Saturday. The air temp got no warmer than around 38 degrees with cloud cover all day. We did manage to catch around 60 crappie with a few pushing 2 pounds. Lake Hartwell has some huge white crappie which I have never seen here on Lake Lanier. The white crappie out of Hartwell are some real whoppers. Small jigs on 4 lb. test produced all our fish. No minnows. To cold to stick your hand in a minnow bucket. Check out the photos on my photo gallery.
