Striper fishing continues to be excellent. Today we boated 13 stripers on a half day charter with the largest two fish weighing just over 22 pounds. All our fish are hitting downrods with live bluebacks. The fish seemed to be getting a little deeper today. The big fish we caught were 75 ft. down over a 110 ft. bottom. The striper are still not where they usually are at this time of year. I think in the next couple of weeks we will see the stripers move out over the main river channel. Will be out the rest of the week and will report back soon.

Fishing continues to be excellent for the stripers these past few weeks. We are seeing some heavy fish with two of my clients catching several over 25 pounds this week. We are still catching most of our fish on bluebacks at 50-75 ft. depths although you may not be finding fish in the normal summer locations which are out over the main channel. I have been finding most of the stripers still holding in the creeks and bays off the main lake. 50 – 80 bottoms are where most of the active fish are holding. Lead core line is working for the trolling action with white 1-1/2 oz. bucktails trolling at 7-8 colors. There has been a good morning and evening bite so we have been running 2 charters a day while the action is hot. Water generation has been starting most days at 2:55 p.m. until around 6:00 to 8: p.m. which really get the stripers feeding in the afternoons also. Get out while the action hot. Will report back soon.

Fishing for stripers still remains good to excellent. Fishing slowed a bit last week around the full moon but really got going 2 day’s following the moon.Stripers are still holding at 50-70 feet deep over a 80-100 foot bottom. Live bluebacks on down rods are the best way to go. A few fish are being caught power reeling the herring and also bucktails and swimbaits. I have been having some good action in the afternoon when water release at Buford Dam begins. They have been pulling water most day’s starting around 2:55 p.m. and going till 5:00-6:00 p.m. This water release really get’s the fish going in the afternoons. For water release schedules you can call the US Army Corp recording at 770-945-1466. Be on the water and ready when water release starts. Get out soon while the action is hot. August and September are usually the best months of the year for large numbers of large stripers. Will be out on the lake tomorrow and will report back soon.

Striper fishing continues to be good to excellent. I fished a half day charter last Friday and really caught them well. They day started off a little slow as we were able to boat only 4 fish before noon. Around 12:30 the fish really turned on and we boated around 12 good fish from 12:30-1:30 p.m. This time of year you will usually have a good feed in the morning but if they don’t bite early you may need to stick it out and hang in there a little longer. I see the fish feed right in the middle of the day this time of year. The downrods with herring are producing the best. The fish are still holding at 50-80 ft. and should gradually make there way out over the channels as we get into August. The fish we have been catching are still over the deep bays off the main lake. They are calling for more extremely hot weather this coming week which will only bunch the stripers up more. Will be out this week and will report back soon.

Fishing on Lanier for stripers continues to be good to excellent. The heavy boat traffic from the July 4 weekend slowed the action just a little this past Monday and Tuesday but has kicked back in the last few day’s. The fish are still holding in a 40 to 70 ft. depth range. Early in the morning Ive been catching fish downrodding live bluebacks close to the bottom in 40-50 ft. of water. Later in the day the fish seem to be sinking down into the 50-60 ft.timber. Hanging a live blueback s right over the 45-50 ft timber has been producing quite well. We caught 2 fish around noon right around the 70 ft. mark. The stripers should be stacking up over the deep bays on the south end of the lake soon as the water temps get in the high 80’s. Laniers surface temp. now is more like a August temp. reading. Todays surface temp. at noon was 86 degree. Will report back soon.

Fished a half day today with customers David Gaines and Scotty Wages. Had a great day, the fishing was excellent. We boated 22 stripers up to 16 pounds. The fish are in a full summertime pattern. We caught a few fish early on 45 ft. bottoms fishing our bait right down about 5 ft. off the bottom. Later we found fish holding at 50-80 ft. over a 100 ft. bottom. This is a pattern that usually does’nt occur till late July or August but the extremely high water temps have pushed the fish into that hot summer pattern. The stripers should be very predictable the rest of the summer. Don’t miss out on this super fishing. Will be out all next week and will report back soon,

Just got back on the lake this week after a break at the beach with the family. Fishing today was very good. We boated around 20 stripes up to about 14 pounds. All our fish were caught downroding live herring over a 50 ft. bottom. Later in the day we located stripers suspended over 100 ft. bottom fishing our baits down anywhere from 30 – 50 ft. deep. I believe we could have caught them on lead core also. They were suspended in the strike zone from 30-40 ft. which is perfect to catch them trolling bucktails on the lead core line. Water temp. today was 87 degrees when we quit fishing around 1:30 p.m. That is quite warm for this time of year but that warm water temp. will get the fish schooled up in the deep areas of the lake. Will be out the rest of the week and will report back soon.

Striper action is on. Had a good day today. We boated 19 stripers up to 18 pounds. Fish really seem to be scattered throughout the lake. I started up near Gainesville Marina and caught 10 stripers up that way early; later we worked areas south of Browns Bridge and caught 9 more stripes holding on long main lake points in 25-35 feet of water. All our fish hit live bluebacks on downrods anywhere from 22-30 deep. I’m still seeing a lot of bass schooling and was able to catch some casting sammys and weightless flukes. Today’s water surface temp was 86 degrees at 1:00 p.m. Fishing should be great from now on through the summer. This hot weather is really getting the fish schooled up.

The extreme heat is bunching up the stripers as they search out deep cooler water temps. Today we boated 13 stripers up to around 12 pounds. We hooked another good fish that was probably in the mid to high teens that broke off in the timber. All our fish hit bluebacks on downrods at 22-30 ft. depths. The fish are staring to bunch up and Im seeing some large schools for the first time this summer. The fishing will continually get better as the water temp climbs. Todays surface temp. on Lanier was 86 degrees which is probably the warmest I remember seeing this early in the summer. Trolling with lead core line should start to produce some fish. I would try pulling a 1 0z. jig at 4-6 colors, that is usually the right combination when the fish are holding in that 22-30 ft. range.

Spotted bass have been schooling good on top from daybreak up to around 9:00 a.m. so keep some type of topwater on and ready. Ive been taking some good spots on weightless flukes casting them to the surface feeding spots. Sammys and zara spooks have also been producing some action. I will be out the rest of the week and will report back soon.

Fishing these past few weeks remains good for striped bass. We are still catching fish downlining live bluebacks down 25-35 feet down. I am still fishing on the North end of the lake but other anglers have been starting to catch stripes below Browns Bridge. Umbrellas are producing fairly well on the days when stripers are finicky on the live bait. Last Friday I was having a lot of window shoppers on the herrring and changed over to trolling u rigs and caught 7 stripers real quick with the biggest one weighing around 18 pounds. Most of the fish now are ranging from 3-7 pounds with a few 10-13 pounders each day. Seems like the bigger fish are still hitting the weighted flatlines. The fish should be making there way down the lake as the water temps continue to rise. Yesterday Laniers surface temp. was 81 degrees.

The spotted bass are starting to stack up on main lake humps and points. We are catching quite a few nice size spotted bass while dragging live bait for the stripers. I have seen spots schooling in the early a.m. so keep a fluke or some type of topwater ready for the schooling spotted bass. I will be on the lake the rest of the week and will report back Friday.
