Striped Bass Report Junes 28, 2011

by doug

Striper fishing has been very good this past week. I had a charter yesterday with customer Bill Brown and boated `12 stripers with the largest weighing right at 18 pounds.  All the fish hit bluebacks on downrods at 50 ft. depths.  Look for the stripers to be holding in areas that are 50-90 ft. deep. They tend to be a little shallower in the early morning and move out  over deeper areas as the sun gets higher. On the downrods we are using a 5-6 ft. carolina rig with a 2 ounce sinker.  The 2 ounce sinker will get your bait down quick to the stripers once located and will keep your bait in the strike zone if you use a smaller weight the blueback will swim up out of the strike zone also your bait wont hang straight below the boat while slowly drifting.  Lead core line has been producing some fish trolling 1-2 ounce bucktails at 5-6 colors. I will be out the rest of the week and will report back soon.
